APACHE,
Certified Therapy Dog!
His name
is Apache, he is a nine-year old German Shepard and he is a Certified
Therapy Dog.
The order
came in over the internet from Kathryn Gray, an attorney from
Newport Beach, CA. She wanted seatcovers for the golf car they
had bought to help Apache get up the hill from the boat dock at
their weekend getaway. Apache had 3 surgeries in his life for
back and hip problems and going up the hill from the lake was
too much for him. Since he weighed in at 110 lbs. neither Kathryn’s
former football player husband or her 5’2” frame were
going to get Apache up that hill! She explained that Apache spends
his weekends at the lake about 2 hours away from home and although
neither of them play golf, Apache’s golf cart was strictly
utilitarian but in need of a hug! Thus, the seatcovers and matching
fringe! (They also keep him from sliding on the vinyl!)
You might
wonder why all this fuss about a dog. Well Apache isn’t
just an ordinary dog nor are his owners. On Kathryn’s only
day off, she and Apache visit local childrens’ hospitals
in Southern California where Apache dispenses hand shakes. high-fives,
hugs and wet kisses.
